Barnett HyperGhost 405 Quick Summary

Summary
Barnett delivered a fantastic product with the Hyperghost 405. This high-quality crossbow is really well-balanced and very comfortable to hold, handle, and shoot with. The crossbow is highly accurate and its TriggerTech trigger is one of the best trigger systems on the market that is worth $200 on its own.
Let’s take a look at the Barnett HyperGhost 405 compound crossbow. According to Barnett, it was their “fastest, hardest-hitting hunting crossbows ever!” back in 2019. We also reviewed the Barnett Hyper Ghost 425, which is Barnett’s flagship model in 2020.
In the package you’ll get the Barnett Hyperghost 425 crossbow, Premium 1.5 x 5 x 32 mm Illuminated scope, Rope cocking sled, Three-arrow side-mount quiver, three 22″ Premium HyperFlite arrows, and some Lubrication Wax.

Size and Weight
The HyperGhost 405 measures a full length of 36.25 inches, a width(axle to axle) of 20.375 inches uncocked, and 17.6 inches cocked. The crossbow tips our scales at 7.7 lbs.
Construction and Design
The HyperGhost 405 features a new upgraded stock and Barnett’s patented step-through riser. The buttstock has a stabilizer bar. This stabilizer bar makes sure that the crossbow is better-balanced because of the counterbalance it provides.
On top of the buttstock, there is a compartment that you can open from the top, you can store the Barnett hand crank in there or you can store your hunting license in there. The crossbow features a pass-through well-designed foregrip.
Another by Barnett patented addition on this crossbow is the Retractable Underarm Counter Balance Support (RUCS). This retractable underarm hooks under the shooter’s arm to counteract the weight of the riser for a balanced, secure grip when shouldering the crossbow.
The crossbow has three Picatinny rails, you can attach extra equipment to them, like for example an extra side quiver, optics, foregrip etcetera. The Mossy Oak Treestand Monochromatic Camo Pattern finish lets you blend in with your environment.
Arrows and Speed
With a power Stroke of 16.333 inches and a draw weight of 185 pounds, the HyperGhost 405 shoots with a velocity of 405 feet per second, delivering 138 (ft-lbs) knockdown power. Enough to kill any whitetail or large game.
The three 22″ Premium HyperFlite arrows that are included in the package are high-quality hunting arrows. The HyperGhost 405 comes with a side-mount quiver that can hold a total of four arrows.

Halo Scope
The Hyperghost 405 comes with a premium 1.5 x 5 x 32 mm illuminated Halo scope. The scope has an illuminated(green or red) reticle. The space in between the internal dots can be adjusted to any speed thanks to the per second speed dial on the scope. The scope is tuned up to 60 yards.
Cocking
The Hyperghost 405 has a rope sled for cocking and a spot for a crank. You can cock the crossbow with the rope cocking sled included in the package but you’ll have to buy the Barnett Crank Cocking device separately. Because of the step-through riser, Barnett didn’t equip the Hyper Ghost 405 with a foot stirrup.
TriggerTech Trigger
The HyperGhost 405 comes with a trigger with the patented TriggerTech trigger, its a Metal Injection Molded (MIM) trigger with Frictionless Release Technology. This system creates a free-floating roller between the sear and the trigger – offering a smoother, lighter trigger. The three-pound, zero-creep smooth pull gives you full control over the shot. It is a fantastic trigger system that is worth $200 on its own.
Safety Features
The crossbow is packed with safety features. The trigger system contains nock sensors an ambidextrous safety switch an anti-dry fire finger and the crossbow features safety guards under the rail.
Assembly and Sighting-in
The HyperGhost 405 comes mostly pre-assembled. You’ll only have to tighten one bolt. Install the quiver bracket first. Then the quiver and the step-through riser. Because of its single bolt assembly desgin, you can assemble and disassemble the crossbow very fast and efficiently.
Sighting-in the scope was easy to do, in 5 minutes I had it properly calibrated.
Range Test
The HyperGhost 405 is very comfortable to hold and maneuver with. Thanks to the stabilizer bar in the buttstock and the Retractable Underarm Counter Balance Support(RUCS) the crossbow’s balance is outstanding. Even shooting with one hand is therefore possible with this crossbow.
Cocking the Hyperghost 405 with the cocking sled was easy to do and required little effort. We also tried out cocking the crossbow with Barnett’s crank cocking device. I prefer the crank myself because its silent, which is always a big adventage to have when you’re hunting an animal.
We speed tested the Hyperghost 405 with the chronograph we use to speed test all crossbows that pass our review table. With the HyperFlite arrows that were included in the package, we measured a top speed of 406.7 feet per second, with 394 fps being the avarage.
The pre-installed string dampeners dampen the crossbow down and the Bristle Arrow Retainer keeps the arrow securely in its place on the flight rail. You can swing the crossbow around and it still won’t fall off.
The HyperGhost 405 is a very accurate crossbow. With the Premium Halo scope I was accurate enough to shoot a 3″ (or less) group at -70 yards.

Recommended Accessories
Arrows and Broadheads
You can buy an extra pack of five Barnett HyperFlite arrows on Amazon and equip them with Rage Crossbow X Broadheads. The Rage Crossbow X broadheads are mechanical broadheads that are optimized for crossbow usage. They have a 2″ cutting diameter and ultrasharp .035″ thick stainless steel blades tough enough for the biggest game with the thickest skins out there.
Barnett Crank Cocking Device
If you want effortless, safe, and silent cocking. Then your best option is buying Barnett’s Crank Cocking Device. The crank cocking device attaches to the stock of the HyperGhost 405 crossbow, the crank reduces cocking resistance by 93%. It is also compatible with the Barnett HyperGhost 425.
Storage and Transportation
This package does not include a crossbow case. If you want a crossbow case that fits the Hyperghost 405 then I would recommend a Supply SAS Black Deluxe soft crossbow case from Southland Archery. It is an affordable and durable crossbow case with a sling.
If you want a shoulder sling with your HyperGhost 405 then I recommend buying a TenPoint Neoprene Crossbow Sling. This sling has a non-slip design with custom swivels and a heavy-duty adjustable strap. It also features a shoulder strap with an integrated elastic band for Crossbow Unloading Bolt (CUB) storage and a thumb loop for added shoulder security.
